These trade proposals are completely crazy when you include Valera, Espino ,Naylor,Tena,Rocchio etc. for Murphy or Lopez and some of these players that are just about ready to produce
Hey Dennis, thanks for reading. I get how guarded people are with prospects, and as special as this group is (and they are), it’s MORE rare that they all produce at their minor league level, at the big league level. The variance between the leagues is high. Now this group IS special, but as I’ve notated to the few that have given this feedback, I come from the other team’s perspective in starting a deal. As I said in the last comment, to think we are going to not have to give up one of the top guys for the best available catcher or starter would be great, and if it happens, Chernoff/Antonetti should be lauded, but it likely won’t, or they’ll back off. They’re letting the market settle, so maybe the price has come down. We shall see. Either way, I appreciate the feedback. I’ll have to write up a trade value piece at some point to explain my thinking. A lot of the first two or three deals were weighted considerably towards the major league side players...so that was my base...
I believe the FO made the right moves by not doing much in overpaying for rentals and barely above average players for our top prospects who could be starters next year! The best move was addition by subtraction in the demotion of Reyes and the dead spot that he created
Hey Brett, thanks for the read! Rather than argue the whys of why they might consider Murphy (although if they were, I think a deal would be done already), I'll just say this. My intention with every trade is the opposite of most. I keep seeing these ridiculous low bar offers for Murphy, so I tend to go with a starting price from the other side, and work backward as the market dictates. Not sure where we are now after the Soto deal...because while most deals have been overvalued TOWARDS the known commodity, I think this one is equal. So I'd definitely taper back the deal. Not sure who Beane wants, but perhaps we'll get to see by the end of the day.

Good read. I have one major push back.
Valera being included for Soto? Of course.
Valera being included for Pablo Lopez? Yeah it would suck, but makes sense.
Valera being included for Sean Murphy? Not in 10 lifetimes would such a thing be even considered.

Yes, the proposals of Brayan Rocchio, Bobby Bradley and David Fry for Ohtani are really the best.
For me, if the A’s said Valera is a deal breaker, I would happily watch Hedges and Maile hit like you and me for the rest of the season.
